The Guadalmina River is the boundary of Marbella and Estepona and this runs down the side of the whole western side of Guadalmina. On the eastern side of Guadalmina the boundary is almost not even there to the naked eye, Arroya del Chopo stream.
Guadalmina Alta started construction in the 1960’s, continued until the late 1980’s with occasional buildings built in the 1990’s/2000’s. Guadalmina Alta is a very well established and up market area.
Centro Commercial Guadalmina Alta Shopping Centre is located right in the centre of Guadalmina Baja and Guadalmina Alta. The commercial centre is made up of 4 buildings each supplying a wide array of services for the community. When visiting the Guadalmina Golf Club you can choose from two golf courses, North and South. Both courses start from the clubhouse which is located in Guadalmina Alta.
Navigating Round Guadalmina
Driving round Guadalmina you will notice that the streets (Calle) are numbered rather than having street names. Navigating around Guadalmina is easy if you know a few basic street numbers. Streets starting at Calle 17 and upwards are all located in Guadalmina Alta. Guadalmina Baja has Calle 4 that runs parallel to the main road and links up with Calle 8. Calle 8 takes you too Guadalmina Hotel. Running along the eastern boundary are Calle 5, Calle 7 and Calle 3.
Throughout Guadalmina you will notice a large number of villas and a small selection of plots. Guadalmina has very few buildings higher than 3 stories and keeps the development very sought after. The higher rise apartments and penthouses have rounded concrete balconies and are all named after tropical birds. Two such buildings are called Edificio Quetzal and Edificio El Iiwi.
Access to Guadalmina
Getting into Guadalmina is easy, with the main roundabout just off the A7 slightly down from the San Pedro turn off. From this roundabout you can go into Guadalmina Alta, Guadalmina Baja and San Pedro de Alcantara. You’ll find two more points of entry for Guadalmina Alta by coming off the Benahavis road through Valle del Sol. Also coming from San Pedro going past the San Pedro Golf Course to the Barcelo Hotel.
The main access point as mentioned is the road coming from the roundabout running alongside the A7. This will guide you through Guadalamina Alta, past the various golf fairways or to the Guadalmina Centro Commercial. Making your way from the roundabout towards the Guadalmina Club House you go past the Urbanisation Guadalmina Alta. Next, ending up at the Barcelo Guadalmina Hotel which has amazing views over the golf course.

From the Barcelo Hotel turning left you will make your way tom the four original apartment blocks. Including Los Flamencos, El Condor and Ribiera Del Guadalmina which is a nine block gated development with 2 pools.

Turning right at the Barcelo you will notice a large gated community called Urbanisation Campos de Guadalmina and Edificio Tambre. On the opposite side of the road is Isla de Guadalmina which is the most recent development in Guadalmina Alta. The complex consists of townhouses and is set in an island within the golf course. Rather than an island out at sea. Half of the houses face the golf course whilst the other half are looking at the gardens and community swimming pool.
